Mathieu van der Poel’s dominance in Zonhoven was simply astonishing. He made his move on the fourth lap, attacking on the sand section and quickly opening up a gap. By the end of the lap, he had a 10-second lead, and by the end of the fifth lap, he was 25 seconds ahead. He continued to extend his lead, and by the end of the race, he had a comfortable 20-second victory.

Van der Poel’s performance was all the more impressive given the conditions. The temperature was below freezing, and the course was covered in snow and ice. Van der Poel showed no signs of slowing down, however, and he seemed to be enjoying himself as he dominated the race.
